The love song I Will Always Love You was written by Dolly Parton in 1973 for Porter Wagner when they stopped performing together. Through the years it has become a popular love song that has been played in movies and recorded by various artists . Her song can be heard softly playing in the background of the 1974 film Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore. She performed a second version for the 1982 film The Best Little Whorehouse In Texas where she starred with Burt Reynolds. In 1992 Whitney Houston recorded the song for the film The Bodyguard. The song revitalized both of their careers with this new popular version. At one time Elvis Presley wanted to record the song but never did. It has been recorded by Vince Gill, Kenny Rogers, Linda Ronstadt, Sarah Washington, and Roger Whittaker. In 2011 it was the #1 song in the Valentine's Day poll by CMT.

On November 25, 1992 the movie The Bodyguard opened in theaters starring Whitney Houston in her big screen debut and Kevin Costner. It was the 2nd highest grossing film of the year. In the movie she sings a new version of Dolly Parton's song I will Always Love You it became the best selling soundtrack selling 12.1 million copies and it currently ranks 6th among all albums. On March 13, 1993 Whitney Houston became the first female artist to place three songs in the Billboard Hot 100's top 20 simultaneously: "I Will Always Love You," "I’m Every Woman" and "I Have Nothing."
