A new animated movie for summer fun entertainment explores the world of human emotions. Created by  Peter Docter at Disney-Pixar, the movie  Inside Out  promises to be a fun adventure of a little girl dealing with a variety of feeling as her family moves to a new city.   In the movie Riley is guided by each of her many emotions:
Joy voice of Amy Poehler, Fear voice of Bill Hader,
Anger voice of Lewis Black, Disgust voice of Mindy Kaling,
Sadness voice of Phyllis Smith

Peter Docter has been involved in the writing and directing of several classic Pixar films, including;Toy Story, Monsters Inc and Wall-e. In his own words he explains the challenge of making this movie" It took us maybe two years to realize the interior design of the mind reflected what was at stake in the outside world." Docter reveals that the years of work he spent creating the movie affected him personally stating; "it definitely changed the way I look at people behaving, people’s behavior, my interactions with them." He believes "there is a real value to each emotion that is part of the richness of life, and it’s not until you really recognize them,  that you really have the ability to connect with the world in a deeper way."
Inside Out will opens in theaters on June 19th. To see more previews of this fun movie along with dowloads and other fun visit the official website here: Inside Out the Movie Disney Pixar

Father's Day

A  daughter's steadfast love and gratitude for her father became the foundation for the Father's Day Holiday. In the spring of  1910 Sonora Smart Dodd listened to a sermon about Mother's Day at her church. It caused her to remember how her father had raised her when her mother died in child birth. She believed fathers were also a very important part of the family and they deserved a special day too.
Mrs Dodd contacted churches in Spokane Washington and suggested that a day in  the month of June should be designated to honor fathers. She chose this month as her father's birthday was  the 5th of June.
This was the beginning of several attempts to designate a special day for dad. Father's Day was celebrated in many parts of the country each year in June, however it did not become an official holiday in the United States until  President Johnson declared that the 3rd Sunday in June would be Father's Day.  In 1972 President Nixon signed the permanent proclamation making it an official holiday.
As Father's Day approaches it is a great time to reflect on how important fathers are in our daily lives. This is a wonderful time to honor our fathers or special men who have served  as father figures that have enhanced our lives.

Memorial Day

The first Memorial Day was known as Decoration Day as it was created three years after the end of the Civil War. This special day was established to honor the military who lost their lives. On Decoration Day the nation visited the graves of the war dead and decorated them with flowers.

The date of May 30th 1868 was chosen as it was not the date of any famous battles and there would be an bundance of flowers blooming at that time. Waterloo, New York and Boalsburg, Pennsylvania were two cities to to host a Decoration Day in 1868.

An American tradition was born when Emma Hunter, Sophie Keller and Elizabeth Myers decorated the graves of Civil War soldiers in the Boalsburg Cemetery in Harris Township, Centre County, Pennsylvania.

In 1971 Memorial Day became an official holiday to be celebrated on the last Monday of May each year. This video explains the meaning and traditions of how a military person is honored it was created by Karen Vogan Memorial Day 2012 titled:Honoring the FallenKaren Vogan

In Aug 5, 2011 Jdremy created this Memorial Day video to the music of "Hymn to the Fallen" by John Williams.  In honor of the soldiers who give us the freedoms we have today. American Cemeteries around the world and the number of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice. Support the troops.
Trace Adkins created this  video in 2010 titled  Till The Last Shots Fired No matter what , An ultimate price has to be paid .If it wasn't for the men and women in the armed forces you could only imagine were we would be ..

This is another moving video titled:
If You're Reading This by Tim McGraw

It is my hope that Americans will find time during this three day Memorial weekend to reflect on the true meaning of this day, maybe visit a National Cemetery in your area and say a prayer for those men and women who fight to keep the United States a free country everyday.

Pentecost Sunday May 24th

Columbine Blessings on Pentecost

The Columbine  flower is one of the symbols for Pentecost Sunday. This Holy day is celebrated by Christians on the fiftieth day after Easter. The sacred day commemorates the descent of the Holy Ghost upon the Apostles. It marks the end of the Resurrection season and the beginning of the universal Church.  This day is also known as Whitsunday  in European countries.

The white dove symbolizes the baptisms on the first Pentecost Sunday, where red rose petals are also sprinkled to represents the miracle of the fiery tongues from Acts. The Columbine flower is a symbol of the Holy Spirit, derived from the latin word Columba meaning dove. The flower is named for its dove shaped petals that resemble a dove in flight.

This year Pentecost Sunday is celebrated on May 24th. The liturgy  may include readings from Leviticus 23:15-22, Acts 1:4-5 4, The Acts of the Apostles 2:1-4 1 ,Exodus 19:9-11 , 16-19 , Exodus 32:26-29 and Joel 2:28-32.

Peace Officers

National Police week was established by President John F. Kennedy in 1962 to recognized police officers and honor law enforcement officers who lost their lives in the line of duty. Currently in the United States, there are approximately 900,000 law enforcement officers that put their lives on the line each day for the safety and protection of others. With their dedicated service statistics show that violent and property crime rates in the United States are now at historic lows. This protection does come with a price as each year, there are approximately 60,000 assaults on law enforcement officers. During the past decade there has been an average of 150 officers killed each year in the line of duty. This special week includes Peace Officers Memorial Day on May 15th. This past year 117 Peace Officers lost their lives in the line of duty in 2014.

The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund was created in 1984 it is dedicated to honoring and remembering the service and sacrifice of law enforcement officers in the United States. This nonprofit organization in Washington, DC, built and continues to maintain the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial.
The Memorial honors federal, state, and local law enforcement officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice for the safety and protection of our nation and its people. There are 20,267 names carved on the Memorial's marble walls, dating back to 1791.

The organization Concerns of Police Survivors  encourages citizens to fly blue ribbons from their car antennas during National Police Week. This year from May 11 through May 17, seeing thousands of blue ribbons flying from cars would be a tremendous show of support for our fallen officers and those still working the streets.
